Free Cancellation Letter Template
A cancellation letter is a formal written notice to a company or service provider confirming your intention to cancel a contract, subscription, or service agreement.
Important Notes
Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, consumers who enter into distance contracts (online, by telephone, or by post) or off-premises contracts have a 14-day cooling-off period during which they can cancel for any reason (Regulations 29–38). The trader must reimburse all payments received within 14 days of being informed of the cancellation (Regulation 34). The Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides additional protections: goods must be of satisfactory quality (section 9), fit for a particular purpose (section 10), and as described (section 11). Services must be performed with reasonable care and skill (section 49). If a trader fails to meet these standards, the consumer may have the right to cancel the contract and claim a refund. The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts provisions (Part 2 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015) may render unfair any term that imposes a disproportionate penalty for early cancellation. The Payment Services Regulations 2017 govern the cancellation of direct debits and recurring payments.
